"Pick Up"
Electromagnetic Drums

FIELD OF APPLICATION

ELEKTROMAG "PICK UP" electro magnetic drums are meant for the separation of ferrous particles from goods to be processed to be used to protect subsequent machines or to purify the goods to be processed. The magnetic drums for lifting procedure serve predominantly for the magnetic separation of ferrous from non-ferrous metals in the processing of scrap. It is a condition for this separation that the respective material has been broken-up into small bits and is being fed to the magnetic drum uniformly, in an infeed channel.

The magnetic drums are used for the following materials :

  1. processing of sheet scrap, mixed scrap, predominantly from motorcar bodies.
  2. purification of non-ferrous metal scrap from adhering ferrous parties.

DESIGN AND MODE OF OPERATION

The magnetic drum comprises of a magnetic system held stationary, but adjustable in the clamping supports. Depending on the diameter of the drum, the magnet support hold 21 or 3 wound cores with magnet coils of different strength. These are covered by pole shoes, resulting in a magnetic system with alternating polarity in the direction of the rotation.

The magnetic drum is equipped with a drum jacket made of non-magnetic abrasion resistant steel plates, with discharge strip and with lateral covers, made of light metal casting, with rotation supports - all these parts rotating around the magnetic system. Ferrous particles contained in the conveyed goods, as far as magnetisable are attracted by the magnetic system and are at the end of the magnetic system by the discharge strips from the rotating drum jacket.

The magnetic drum is held from the upright clamping supports. The cable connection is at the face of the shaft: at the same place, there is also the key for adjusting the magnetic system. The shafting is held in the clamping support by a set of ring-spring clamps.

The rotation supports are equipped with largely dimensioned anti-friction bearings. The mechanical drive is effected via a rotation support designed as driving wheel or a V-belt pulley.

SELECTION OF THE SUITABLE TYPE OF MAGNET

Proper selection of the correct diameter and width of the drum is dependent on a number of factors. Please furnish us the following information to enable us to select and offer a suitable drum.

  1. Type of material to be separated.
  2. Bulk weight (t/m3), to determine the volume required.
  3. Grain size of material of, whether predominantly finally grained or coarse.
  4. Percentage of iron and of waste for the expected throughput.
  5. Throughput (m3/h).
  6. Purpose of separation of iron.
    1. Separation of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
    2. Separation of ferrous metal and rubble.
    3. Separation of strongly magnetic iron and weakly magnetic (alloyed) iron.
    4. Separation of ferrous particles from conveyor goods with low iron content.

In accordance with the above information, the size of the drum is determined and the decision is made if a magnetic drum is more suitable or a belt-type magnetic separators.
